Hi Noble 1st Qtr 2022

Chevys

Captain Mark Guyer

Nobles and Ladies, on behalf of the Khedive Chevys, I would like to begin by offering our congratulations to our 2022 Potentate, Illustrious Sir Scott Foxwell.  Our unit was in attendance at the installation ceremonies for this new year and we are feeling very enthusiastic about the direction and vision that the Potentate and Divan have for the year ahead of us, it’s going to be a busy one.  I am pleased to announce that the result of our unit’s hard work on last fall’s cornhole tournament has put us in a position to give much more generously to the temple as well as the hospitals.  During the Pote’s installation, we proudly presented a check to the temple for $10,000 and we are planning a trip to Greenville SC to present another $10,000 to the hospital.  This didn’t happen by accident, and nobody won the lottery.  The nobles of this unit worked very hard to secure sponsors and donors prior to the actual tournament. The long weekend of setting up, operating, and then breaking down the event, was exhausting.  But let me tell you, not a single individual complained about any of it, and honestly we all had a great time and we’re looking forward to the next one, with the goal of surpassing the previous year.  This is exactly the kind of “can-do” attitude that epitomizes the fine gentlemen who make up this amazing unit.  However, I can’t leave out the ladies, as we had a tremendous amount of “behind the scenes” help from many of them, and they were a vital component to our success before and during the event.  For this, I would like to say a heartfelt “Thank You!”

Our membership is active and this unit is going places.  The Chevys participated in the Chesapeake Rotary Club’s 38th annual Christmas parade in December, and we had an impressive showing, with nearly a dozen cars and a float that the ladies decorated and rode on.  We’re hoping to be even more involved in local parades in 2022, and we always enjoy the atmosphere of fellowship and comradery when mixing it up with the other units in the temple.  This kind of exposure in the community is what we as Shriners need to be doing, not only to attract new members, but also getting our message out there about the work that is being done in our Shriners Hospitals for Children.  This year marks the 100th anniversary of our hospitals and the 150th for Shriners International.  That’s a long time and a lot of lives impacted by this awesome philanthropy.  It is with great pride that I continue to serve as Captain of this unit and I am humbled by the faith the nobles have in me.  We are all looking forward to making 2022 a most remarkable year!

YITF,

Captain Mark
